Given the narrow nature of the site, this building takes advantage of its verticality by creating an open atrium space that allows for visibility to and from the various galleries within the program. The main focus of this studio was to study facade design. Here, I have chosen to contrast the sharp angular qualities of the building’s geometry with a more organic and free flowing facade skin. The stretching of the holes emphasizes the vertical nature of the structure, and the subtle pulling towards the street and adjacent building gives it varying levels of depth along its surface; it also allows for interesting shadows to play on the interior gallery spaces depending on the time of day and sun angles.
