The redesign of the Amtrak station is centered around views towards the water and the proposed redeveloped airport site. Sculpted from volumes that have been stretched, pulled, and extruded, the building’s configuration is reminiscent of early mat buildings of the 1960’s. The interior layout prioritizes an icon space where the main concourse is housed, while the exterior encourages visitors to traverse the length of the plaza.
